Kenya Airways
Founded on 22 January 1977 after the dismantling of East African Airways, Kenya Airways is a Kenyan airline based in the capital Nairobi. Its first flight took place on 04 February 1977, and since then the company has flown more than 4 million passengers each year, to 56 different destinations worldwide including 46 in Africa. Kenya Airways, which has the slogan “The pride of Africa”, has 36 aircraft in its fleet which, according to the sky team website, are among the most recent of the African continent (Boeing 737-700, Boeing 737-800, Embraer 190). The flagship device according to this same source is a B787 Dreamliner.
Jambo Jet
In 2014 the company launched the flights of Jambo Jet, its subsidiary of low-cost flights that serves several cities within the country (Kisumu, Mombasa, Nairobi, Eldoret) and Africa (Entebbe in Uganda and Kigali in Rwanda). Its fleet consists of 8 Dash 8-Q400 Bombers with a capacity of 78 passengers.
Kenya Airways Cargo
The same year, it created its cargo division, “Kenya Airways Cargo”, under the slogan “The Manifesto of Africa to the World”, which serves several major cities of the world: London, Johannesburg, Amsterdam, New York, Geneva, Dubai, Paris, Sharjah, Guangzhou etc.
Kenya Airways is 32.5% owned by Kenyan retail investors, 22% by the Kenyan government, 15.7% by Kenyan investors and 7.8% by the Air France-KLM group. Kenya Airways owns 49% of Tanzanian Precision Air.
